Part 2 of the floor pans.....this is where the fun begins !
My very first tack welds.
This is where the "reading" part came into play.  I knew to have the metal clean, etc., etc.....I just didn't know how to properly operate the welder.  you can see a big difference between NOT reading (left) and AFTER reading (right).  The welds are smoother, less splatter, and a more solid burn-through.  In other words, a much stronger weld.
Finished with the right floor pan.  Now to patch the left.  I didn't replace the entire left floor pan.  It was only rusted in one small area, so I elected to patch it instead.
The patch metal was taken from a scrap 1992 Mustang hood.  The car remains all Mustang !!!
That's all for the floors.  Another purchase I forgot to mention was a welder's hood/helmet.  I picked up a "self darkening" one from Harbor Freight for around $60.  It has a 1/20,000th of a second time to go from light to dark.  I used a middle setting for the darkness.  No headaches, no bright spots in my vision, even after welding for a couple of hours straight.  It's worth the money.
