WHAT IS HD?

I am developing this site in the hopes that it will inform, enlighten and educate those in need of answers and those who have just discovered the need to know more about Huntington's Disease (HD). I would like to share things that Kathy and I have personally experienced, learned and discovered since Huntington's touched our lives.  I hope that others will find the information helpful and informative not only from a clinical point of view but also on a personal level and know that they are not alone.

My wife Kathy, at the age of 36, was diagnosed with HD July of 1996. Since then she has struggled with her speech, her breathing and her ability to walk. She has regressed to the point that her ability to walk is being compromised by her lack of balance and her ability to navigate her own path safely is questionable on most days. Her mind at times allows her to travel to places so far from reality and with such intensity, that it could make a person marvel at the power of thought. Daily living is far from what it used to be. There are so many things she once enjoyed and today she does not have the ability to achieve any of them. Reading and doing her needle point have become distant memories and forgotten desires.

A great day in the Wasatch Mountains.
