One of Yalta's best-known landmarks, the neo-Gothic castle Lastivchyne Hnizdo ("Swallow's Nest") was built between 1911 and 1912 in Haspra, above Aurora's Cliff. Designed as a medieval castle by A. Sherwood, it overlooks the Black Sea and is situated near the remains of an ancient Roman fortress (1st to 3rd century ad).
The castle survived a heavy earthquake in 1927.
A Structure with high turrets crowned with crenellated ramparts and pointed gothic pinnacle stands on the very edge of a 40-meter cliff overlooking the sea.
The castle is also knows as "The Castle of Love" or "Swallow's Nest". The castle is an architectural symbol of the Crimea. It seems to soars over the depths of the sea.
