All requests for information are strictly confidential. Local Union 343 is an amalgamated local and has over 450 proud members working at eight workplaces in the Kingston - Napanee - Belleville area. We represent workers at Alcan Aluminium Ltd., C.E. MacPherson Steel, LaFarge Concrete Kingston, LaFarge Concrete Belleville, Hartford Fibres, Herbies Drug Warehouse, Canadian Waste Systems Napanee, and Pine Meadow Nursing Home, Northbrook. The Local Union meetings are held on the first Thursday of every month at our Steelworkers Union Centre located at Greenridge Plaza, 105 Sutherland Drive (at Montreal St.) Street, Kingston, Ontario, Canada K7K 5V6. The regular monthly membership meetings begin at 6:30 P.M. The Executive Committee meets at 5:00 P.M., prior to the monthly membership meeting. A monthly calendar details meetings and activities of Local 343 and labour in the Kingston Area. Each unit of the Local Union has its own Unit Officers and these officers are elected every 3 years and positions are Unit Chairperson, Unit Vice-Chair / Secretary, and Unit Grievor. We hold monthly meetings for our Local Union Stewards on the last Wednesday of each month, at 4:30 P.M. at the Steelworkers Hall. We are in the process of having all the collective agreements of our units on-line to view and download. The agreement with Alcan Aluminium Ltd. is now available. Local 343 has a press release index of media releases sent. The Local 343 Media Release archive contains all media releases we have sent on behalf of our local union. Local 343 has recently updated it by-lays since completeing the process of amalgamation in 1998. The By-laws of Amalgamated Local Union 343 were approved by the USWA International Secretary-Treasurer, on April 14, 2000. Local Union 343 was chartered in April 1945 Local Union 343 has a history the dates 55 years and on our 50th anniversary in 1995 we produced a history book, Making The Difference 50 Years Of Local 343 United Steelworkers Of America We now have that book available on-line or to download in a word document file. The Kingston area has a Steelworkers Organization of Active Retirees (SOAR) chapter established. SOAR Chapter 16 was established in 1985 and meets in our hall. In November 1999, I visited Brazil as part of a delegation of 3 Canadian Steelworkers to meet with metalworkers from that country. While there I met many great union friends and took over 700 photos.
