THE STORY

The TARDIS arrives some ten million years in the future on a giant spaceship carrying all the Earth's surviving plant, animal and human life, much in a miniaturised and suspended state. As the planet is destroyed, the spacecraft begins its 700 year journey to a new home on the planet Refusis II. Dodo is suffering from a cold - a virus which is not known in the far future and accidently infects both the Human Guardians and their Monoid servants, as well as Steven. The travellers are put on trial for bringing the plague, but fortunately the Doctor finds a cure and the trio leave the spaceship, which Dodo has nicknamed 'The Ark' in the TARDIS.

However, the TARDIS reappears back on the Ark centuries later when it is approaching the end of its journey. The travellers discover that partly as a result of the plague the Monoids have grown stronger and enslaved the Humans. The Monoids plan to make Refusis II their own, and to destroy the Ark with the humans onboard. The Doctor and Dodo are sent to Refusis II with some of the Monoids and discover the invisible inhabitants. With their help the Doctor is able to persuade the two races to live together in peace.

FACTS:

Although credited Lesley Scott - Paul Erickson's wife at the time of the story's production, apparently made no contribution to the scripts.

Jackie Lane, who played Dodo occasionally slips into the Cockney accent that she had used in rehearsals, before the production had been told by their superiors that it was unacceptable for a regular character to speak anything other than 'BBC English'

The jungle set featured in the story contained some live specimens, including a toucan, a snake and a baby elephant!
