Logtown Climbing Guide Route Descriptions

Big Cliff Middle Cliff

The O.A. Crags
The O.A. Crags are composed of Carboniferous Age sandstone which was quarried in the 1800s. There are two crags here, The Little O.A. Crag and The Big O.A. Crag. These crags are located on the property of Camp McKinley, which is owned and operated by the Columbiana Council of The Boy Scouts of America. To climb here a permit must be obtained from the Council office in Canton or alternately you can also climb here if you are climbing with Rich Rice. When climbing on these crags it is best to maintain a low profile and leave no trace of your visit, carry out what you carry in.

To locate The O.A. Crags drive 1/2 mile farther down Logtown Road from the parking pull off at The Big Cliff, turn left on Furnace Road where there's a small bridge crossing the Middle Fork of the Little Beaver Creak. Drive another 100 yards and park in the Scout headquarters parking lot. There is a boulder of interest up the hill across from the Scout headquarters, it's called Indian Rock. On to The O.A. Crags, walk up Furnace Road for a 1/4 mile where there will be a gate on the right side of the road, walk up the gated road for 200 yards. The Little O.A. Crag is at the top of the road grade, The Big O.A. Crag is located another 50 yards past The Little O.A. Crag. Bring your bug repellent in warm weather.

There are toprope and boulder problems in these crags ranging from 5.0 to 5.10b. Types of climbs range from beginner bouldering on The Little O.A. Crag, to very technical climbs, such as MICROHOLD on The Big O.A. Crag. The Scouts have used these crags for decades to learn climbing techniques. All of the climbs on The Little O.A. Crag and most of the climbs on The Big O.A. Crag were climbed in or before the 1960s by many anonymous Scouts. For additional information on The O.A. Crags read the Logtown Alpine Club Press 1986 publication of
A Climbers Guide To the Cliffs Of Logtown, Ohio 1986.
