Occasionally, someone actually goes all the way to the bottom of my page on the -gry puzzle, and then sends me an e-mail like this one:

Angry

Hungry

So what is it…or is there a third word in the English language that ends in gry?

Gahhhh!
How could anyone get all the way to the bottom of the page without reading the answer?

Yes, the answer is there. All the answers I have, anyway. But no, this person was sure he'd missed it.

So this is what I e-mailed back to that person:

[name], I'm assuming that if you have my e-mail address that you've seen my website about the -gry question. If you read it, you should have found that there are several words in English that end in -gry, including "gry" itself. But since none of them are common words like "angry" or "hungry," one is lead to the conclusion that that is not what the question is really about. The probable truth of the matter is that the question is so mangled that either there is no answer, or there are several possible answers, the "right" one depending on how the version of the question you hear or read is worded. And most of those possibilities actually have nothing to do with -gry.

But if you think the question is asking for a third common English word that ends in -gry, sorry. There is no such word.

Yes, that means the puzzle is a silly, lying, cheating, stupid red herring. And that is, in fact, why I wrote the website, because entirely too many people waste entirely too much time on this thing that really has no answer, and I wanted them to understand why the puzzle is answerless, and that they -- you -- are not alone.

Please read the page.
