more opinions on partnerships...

>If you don't mind, just me, I think I will borrow your format and join
in on the conversation. Mind you, I do not have all the time in the world
to watch series and movies so many of the couples I will just give my judgement
based >on looks.
Oh I don't mind at all. Thanks for taking part in this discussion. :)
> -Ada+Bobby - I would agree they do make a funny couple, but I think
their appearances together are very endearing, at least to me. I felt for
this couple in FOJ more than >Ada+Lawrence couple.
That's a great word to use... "endearing," you are right, I would use that
word to describe their relationship. I agree with you, I felt more for their
relationship then Ada's relationship with Lawrence in FOJ V.
> -Ada+Roger Kwok - I really haven't seen Threshold of an Era yet. I
have to agree with some, that Ada may be a little tall for Roger...or should
I say Roger is a little short for Ada. He's very cute though and I think would
be a good-looking couple, maybe with Ada sitting down or Roger >wearing
heels.
Interestingly enough, Roger is actually taller than Ada. He is 178cm and
Ada is 173cm. I think because Ada is quite lanky that's why she gives us
the impression that she is extremely tall. People in another thread were
talking about her being taller than Julian Cheung Chilam and Julian is actually
taller than Roger.
I liked Roger and Ada quite a bit in ATEII, they made a very sweet couple.
> -Ada+Chin Kar Lok - again I haven't seen the series, but I think they
would make a rather odd couple. I'm iffy about >the series itself, maybe
it was just Ada's hair in pictures.
Yeah, she did have a crappy haircut especially at the beginning of the
series but that was in keeping with her character. I rather like Chin Kar
Lok as an actor. I've seen him in several support roles in films like Full
Throttle and Task Force and I really like watching him. Actually, A Matter
of Business isn't the easiest of comedies to watch. In the first place,
comedy is probably the hardest genre to get right because it's so easy to
get it wrong. And comedy is so much more about personal taste then dramas
and action films etc are. AMOB is very much an absurdist comedy which doesn't
always work but worked enough for me. It also includes some in-jokes which
you'll only get if you watch enough TVB series. There also aren't very many
absurdist comedy type series made by TVB so I'm not sure how many TVB viewers
will like it.
> -Ada+Louis Koo - and yet again, I haven't seen ATE to picture them
together. Like many people acknowledge, Louis is rather a handsome figure.
But then I think it takes more > than looks to have chemistry.
They definitely make a good looking couple. I think they managed to create
a loving relationship in ATEII, so much so that people were really upset
when Louis started to turn on her. Personally, I liked Ada & Roger more
because I thought they had more chemistry together.
> -Ada+Nick Cheung - I liked him in SOH and felt for him and Ada. He
did her wrong first, but then that's the series. As for appearance, I think
they're cute together, >although Nick is a tad short - just a tad.
You are right on this one. When Nick was at TVB, he was indeed one of TVB's
shorter leading men. He's 170cm. While not exactly short, he's does appear
short when he stands next to most of TVB's far taller leading men. Luckily,
he's only 3cm shorter than Ada so if she doesn't wear heels and if they
shoot them correctly, no one will notice the height difference.
> -Ada+Tony Leung Chiu Wai - I really want to see this movie. I love
Tony, but (you may think I'm stuck on this height nonsense) I also think he
is short, at least shorter >than Ada I think.
Tony is 172cm and is shorter by Ada by 1cm, so not really a noticeable
difference. Your Place or Mine is a rather good movie and I recommend it
especially if you like yuppy comedies that UFO specialized in making. At
the very least watch the film for Tony and Ada who really does make use
of her limited screen time very effectively. As for Tony, I love him. He's
in my top-5 favourite HK actors.
> -Ada+Timmy Ho - I loved the series only becuase Ada was really beautiful
in it. I liked it that Ada's character had more backbone in it without have
to be totally evil. I agree that Timmy was a wimp, and that they should
have chosen someone else and rewrote the script altogether, which was really
draggy. But then you can't change the >story if you're basing it on a
book, I guess.
Ada did look quite gorgeous in this series but I think she looked more
stunning in The Link. Her character did have backbone, especially in the
beginning. However, I was a bit disappointed that the series made her a
wimpy lovelorn person towards the end and I would have prefered it if her
Bride with White Hair was closer to Bridget Lin's Bride with White Hair
in the film. I think given the character's basic nature, she would have
become a much harder person after the "betrayal." Instead, she seems to
become kinder which I found puzzling. I've been trying to read the novel
to see if the series took any liberties with the story but my Chinese reading
is limited and it's taking me FOREVER. :)
I agree on the script. I fast forwarded a ton of non-Ada parts because
the script was so draggy and there were a ton of sub-plots that could have
been trimmed or cut. Also I had to fast forward a lot of Timmy Ho's parts,
I don't usually mind him but he drove me bannanas in RWHM. :) So I don't
know if I missed out essential parts of the story.
> -Ada+Nicky Wu - the real one, eh? I've only seen them together in
ads and news pics. I have to say that Nicky is really cute, and Ada is really
beautiful, but together...What matters is that they're happy with each >other.
At least I am glad they're together.
Yeah, whatever makes them happy in real life is okay with me too, not like
I can change anything anyway. :) I just didn't really like their on-screen
partnership. Maybe it's cuz I wasn't impressed with the film overall.
> -Ada+Lin Jia-hua - A very mismatched couple. I hated the guy and his
cheating ways (the character) but I loved Ada's >performance. I just
wished she was in the series more.
Yeah, they don't look good together at all but without Lin Jia-hua's sleazoid
character, Suet Yi won't be able to wreck the havoc she does so I am forced
to enjoy this partnership. :) I loved Ada in The Link and yeah, she just
wasn't in it enough.
>I just wanted to add...
> -Ada+Chin Siu Ho (Chin Kar Lok's brother) in Unnatural Born Killer
and Fist of Legend - I think that they look really good together. His serious
looks and Ada's playful >nature really complement each other.
Hmmm... I did forget about his partnership. I have not seen Unnatural Born
Killer but I have seen Fist of Legend. Agree, they do look good together.
I also want to add two other partnerships that I'd forgotten about...
-Ada+Stephen Chow in Hail the Judge and A Chinese Odyssey II. She's really
barely in both films but I did enjoy seeing her in both films. I particularly
liked her in Hail the Judge cuz her role is bigger there and cuz she was
quite pretty there and I like it when she acts angry cuz I love it when her
eyes flash. Although, I don't think Ada and Stephen Chow make a good looking
couple at all but then I think most of Stephen's co-stars are too pretty
for him anyway.
-Ada+Danny Li in Walk In. This is a strange partnership cuz Danny is way
too old for Ada. Anyway, this strange film is actually surprisingly enjoyable
and Ada is very delightful here. Danny and her aren't really a couple in
the film, she wants it but he doesn't.
