SPOILER...
After Ah Chak recovers from the vicious attack in ATEI, he can no longer be a professional sportsman. He becomes bitter, resentful and feels like he needs to prove that he can be useful & better than Tim. Later on, he like join Tim & Keung's company to work for them. Lik will make use of Chak's insecurities & weaknesses to tempt him to make some decisions that are not legal. Lik doesn't do the tempting himself because Chak doesn't like Lik but Lik sends his lackey who infiltrates the company and this guy's the person who'll tempt Chak. Because of this Chak ends up in prison. He learns his lesson in prison and is released by the end of the series.
Actually, the story is sort of complicated before this too. There is a point in the story where Lik is invited by Tim to join the company because he feels that Lik is a talented man. Lik joins the company because he's jobless after leaving Ming Tai, still wants to take revenge on Tim and this meant that he could get closer to Ling who had lost her memory by then.
Chak & Lik don't get along almost from the very beginning. Later after Lik kills his half brother & sister, he wants to take a sum of the company's money and run. As he was about to run, Lik gets called away and he hides the money in the restroom. Chak sees it, greed gets in the way and he takes the money. As a result, Lik can't leave. So Chak has to bear some of the responsibility for what happens to his family & all the other people that get hurt as a result of his decision. Lik, however, never gets caught for the murders of his siblings. After that, Lik becomes an even harder man and part of the reason Chak ends up in prison is probably because Lik wants revenge from Chak too.
Here is the really cruel part about Chak going to prison. His father is sent to prison with Chak because the court believes that his father is involved. Lik's lackey had been urging Chak to use his father's name in some of the illegal transactions. Chak does consider it but finally decides that it was better to face up to the consequences rather than getting his father into trouble, so he doesn't do it. Unfortunately, Lik orders his lackey to frame Chak's father too and he lands up in prison for a while.
Tim finds out soon after that Lik is responsible for his sister's death, Ling's breakup with Keung and his father's & brother's imprisonment. While trying to get to Shui (Meina's father) to get information about Lik, he witness Lik's henchmen shooting at Shui. He saves Shui who refuses to go to the hospital because he wants to help Tim. Tim uses Shui as leverage against Lik to force Lik to give him evidence that his father is innocent. Lik agrees, however, Shui dies from his injuries on the way to the meeting place. So Tim puts Shui in the boot of the car and hopes that somehow he can fake it anyway.
At the meeting place, Lik forces Tim to "kill" Shui in order to get the floppy disk from him. Tim takes the gun and shoots Shui. Right about then, Meina who has been tailing Tim in order to try and find her father, pulls up. She sees what happens and thinks that Tim killed her father. Tim gets his father out of prison with the disk. Meina, however, refuses to forgive Tim. Even after finding out the truth, she can't forget what she had witness. She'll leave Tim for a period of time and only return in the last episode for a reconciliation.
Hope that helps.
