I don't see Tracy as a replacement
for Jackie if we are talking about characters because they are very different
people. However, if we are talking about replacement girlfriends... I think
that Tracy is a replacement for Jackie. Given Paul's deep love and devotion
to Jackie and his character's unopeness to change (evidence-how long it
took him to be with Jackie,) I doubt if he would be able to love Tracy as
deeply cuz of how quickly this new relationship began. Also I wonder why
it's so important in tv series that everyone must have a girl/boyfriend
or end up with one at the end of the series. I think it's perfectly reasonable
to expect women to be interested in Paul but to have him reject them. I
don't think anyone gets over the death of a love one that close that quickly.
I personally think it'll make a more interesting and less generic script
if Paul didn't end up with Tracy. I think the script did the character of
Tracy a major disservice by having her end up in the same situation as Jackie
toward the end of the series. She's very ill and almost dies. Man, that's
a little too similar to Jackie's situation, which is probably one of the
reasons why people see Tracy as a replacement character for Jackie. Actually,
HH2 parallels HH1 in so many places that it's really annoying. I also agree
that the grieving period was very short and took me by surprised. While
I don't expect them to mourn for the whole series... I sure don't expect
them to show just 2 scenes (at least I only remember 2.) We are talking about
the death of a major and much loved character from the first instalment of
the series. I don't think viewers who loved the first series were given time
to get over the character's death. I loved the scene where Annie cries outside
the door to her house... that was very well done and understated. I'm surprised
though that Henry didn't seem sadder. Jackie worked very closely with him
in HH1, she was a pretty good friend, his girlfriend's best friend and his
best friend's girlfriend... so it seemed strange to me that he didn't seem
sadder. Personally, I think whoever decided to kill of Jackie should be shot.
Someone wasn't thinking. Given the popularity of the first series... it is
highly possible that it might go to HH3... I mean we've had FOJ 1-5, DIF
1-4 and now AR3 is coming up... it seems really silly to kill off a character
that popular and that central to the spirit of the first series. By killing
Jackie off the scriptwriters shut the door on any option to bring that character
back... and that would have been a good option to have for the next instalment.
