Hmmmm... from the sound of it, it seems like you haven't seen AR3 yet.
Well, I haven't seen Seven Sisters so I don't feel qualified enough to comment
on the series.
I can tell you about OTTOO and AR3 though, since I have seen both. I enjoyed
both series. OTTOO will be more expensive to rent because it's 40eps while
AR3 is 32eps.
OTTOO's strength is it's logical script, good character development, understandable
motivations, interesting family dynamics, not always generic storytelling,
moral values, occasional eduactional storytelling and good performances from
most of the leads. Yes, even Yu Wing Tze is adequate as the youngest Luk sister.
The pairing of Steven Ma and Ada Choi is also surprisingly enjoyable. The
cast of support actors are also quite delightful.
AR3 doesn't ask you to think that much. It is a fluffier series than OTTOO
but then OTTOO leans towards (but isn't quite) TVB epic-styled series which
is usually more thematic than TVB's cop series. But that's not to say that
AR3 isn't enjoyable.
On a gut level, AR3 is very enjoyable. Ada Choi's Wai Ying Zhi character
is fun and wacky. Ah Zhi also enjoys a fun-filled relationship with her father
(Ha Yu,) her grandmother (Ha Ping) & Bobby Ouyang's Siu Sung character.
Her partnership with Ellesmere Choi is also surprisingly good. There is a
greater maturity to Joyce's character and both Joyce Tang & Marco Ngai
are suitably intense. There is also good use of thematic music which is something
that's not often done in TVB dramas. Once again, the cast of support characters,
like in OTTOO, is simply delightful.
Basically, if you are in the mood for something light, funny and occasionally
romantic pick AR3. If you want to think a little more, learn a little more
or if you want something a little more epic-styled than pick OTTOO.
Hope this helps. Whatever you pick, I hope you enjoy it.
