Celtic Symphony
notes:
historical: First, I will ask that if you haven't read it, please click here for my disclaimer.
This song was written by Brian Warfield of the Wolfe Tones. Glasgow, if you don't know, is a town in Scotland. A dear fellow named Stan Sanders has informed me of the following: "The background on the song is that it's a tribute to Glasgow Celtic, the Scottish Premier League soccer team that was founded by an Irish priest in the late 1800's. The song refers to the 'Jungle', a nickname for Celtic Park and the 'Lions', the nickname for the 1967 Euro Cup winners from Celtic that won the title in Lisbon, Portugal, thus the 'Lisbon Lions' were their nicknames.
While Celtic is no doubt supported by the Irish Catholic residents of Glasgow and the millions of us around the world, the club itself tries to downplay the rivalry with Glasgow Rangers as it tends to become sectarian."
Sean also says that the club has banned all Wolfe Tones songs from being okayed at Celtic Park, probably because of the "Up the RA" stuff, and that there's an open letter to the club officials on the Wolfe Tones official site. Because the 'RA is the IRA. Which reminds me of my story about the creeping willies. Read that sometime, won't you?
CDs/MP3s: Not recorded, again. Shame, that.
special Prodigals info: Every time they play this I jump up and down like I'm insane. It's endearing, like everything else I do. ::cough:: During the "here we go again" part, you must by law wave your hand back and forth. Don't worry, Greg will lead.
Celtic Symphony
It was far across the sea, when the devil got a hold of me
He wouldn't set me free, so he kept me soul for ransom
na na na na na...
I'm a sailor man from Glasgow town,
I've sailed this world around and round
He's the meanest thing that I have found
In all me days of wandering
na na na na na....
Here we go again, we're on the road again.
We're on the road again, we're on the way to paradise.
We love the jungle deep, that's where the lion sleeps
For then those evil eyes, they have no place in paradise
Graffiti on the walls, just as the sun was going down
I see graffiti on the walls - for the Celts! for the Celts!
Graffiti on the walls says we're magic, we're magic,
Graffiti on the wall.............................
It says oh ah up the 'RA, say ooh ah up the 'RA.
we went thru each jungle deep
for the paradise that we did seek
twas no trip for the weak
we're waltzing with the natives
Around in circles every way,
He turned to me and he did say,
"I think you're leading me astray,
I want your soul, me boyo!"
na na na na na
Here we go again, we're on the road again.
We're on the road again, we're on the way to paradise.
We love the jungle deep, that's where the lion sleeps
For then those evil eyes, they have no place in paradise
Graffiti on the walls, just as the sun was going down
I see graffiti on the walls - for the Celts! for the Celts!
Graffiti on the walls says we're magic, we're magic,
Graffiti on the wall.............................
It says oh ah up the 'RA, say ooh ah up the 'RA.
