12/18/00: The Fugly Shower Curtain
Last night, I hear the key turn in the lock, and then a loud chattering in Spanish. It's Daisy and her mother. "Oh, yes, I love the color. It's going to change the whole room," they are saying.
I pull my lips into a smile and came out in the hallway. "Hi," I say.
"Hi!" says Daisy. "This is my mom."
"Un placer," I say.
"Look at what I got!" Daisy says. "Only ten dollars!"
She is unwrapping something from a shrinkwrapped package. Whatever it is, it's iridescent. I become very worried.
"It's really very beautiful," says Daisy's mom. "I like how it's iridescent."
Daisy is holding the shower curtain up by the tub. It's the kind of curtain that is split into two and you tie back to each side, like a "real" curtain. That would be enough already, but then there's the... um... color. It's pretty much blue, but it shines green and purple when it moves. It makes my eyes hurt.
"It's very nice," I say. "Only ten dollars, wow."
"Doesn't it change the whole bathroom?" says Daisy's mom.
"Yes," I say. "It really does change the whole bathroom. Well, I have to finish my on-line shopping. I'll talk to you later."
I go back in my room.
"Maybe we can get an iridescent little curtain for the window, to match it," Daisy's mom is saying.
