 Mama’s Legacy

I wonder if you really know,
 just how much I care
 And how much I appreciate
the times that you were there
When others gave me up to die,
 at the very start
 You reached down inside yourself,
 and found A mothers heart

I’ll do my best to make her live,
 for she’s my baby girl
And with an old time remedy,
you made me cry and shrill
And that was not the only time
 you showed your mother’s heart
No, that was just the first time,
you more then did your part

I guess I’ll really never know,
 the sacrifices made
To see that I grew up
 to face the world unafraid
But there’s one thing I do know,
was you who led the way
And I owe it all to you
 for what I am today

 You said "You’ll be successful,
if that’s what you want to be
And you can go just as far
 as your eyes can see"
And I watched you set the pattern.
And I watched you show me how
To be a real good mama
to the one who’s now my child

If I can show my daughter
the way that you showed me
She’ll be the very best of mom’s,
just wait and you will see
 For you’ve given something special
in the life you lived for me
You passed on a mother’s heart
