My Dearest Mother
By Lisa Ann Sorely

This Mother’s Day
is special for me
As I have come to realize
the power of a mother’s love.

A mother’s love
is like that of a dogwood tree
and that of a
hand made stone wall
that surrounds a home.
The dogwood tree lies dormant
through storms,
yet it is flexible enough
that no external force
can damage it.
Or harm its growth.

The branches during
a snowfall welcomes each flake
no matter how heavy
its burden appears.
At times the burdens
are quite heavy.

Through it all it appears
to be in its dormant stage.
despite it all, the dogwood
always produces
the most elegant
and fragile flowers.

The stone wall that surrounds
many homes, is perhaps how
A mother’s strong love
takes each family crisis
no matter how big or small
and turns it into
something positive
and binds the family's
love together.

No naked eye can attest
to these small miracles
unless they have been blest
with a mother such as I have.

Mom, I can’t recall
the first embrace
between you and I,
but if it is anything like
the strength you have had
over this past year:
Then I say I owe all
my future
endeavors to you.

Now, I would like
to commit to a solemn promise
to reach my dreams
while I can still feel
your warm embrace.

When I reach that star
of my dream I will dedicate
its existence in your honor.

OH! Mother,
I love you so dearly
more than you
can ever imagine.

Love always,
the Little one,
Lisa Ann
