The Almost Kiss

Laura: I wonder what's keeping them.

Stefan: Well, we can look for them if you like, or send someone from the staff.

Laura: No, that's all right. I mean, they haven't been gone that long. Thank you for the invitation to visit. I didn't realize that I was welcome here.

Stefan: Neither did I. Perhaps we shouldn't examine it too closely.

Laura: You're probably right.

Stefan: I am grateful that you brought Nikolas' sister to visit. She means the world to him. You know, it's uncanny how much they resemble each other. Nikolas looked exactly like her at that age.

Laura: Did he really?

Stefan: Yes. There's a photograph . . . This was taken when Nikolas was five..

Laura: Was this at the cove?

Stefan: Yes. It was one of his favorite spots. We would go there and look out at the sea, and I'd promise him someday he'd leave the island.

Laura: Why?

Stefan: Because it was important to you. I wanted to give our son everything you wanted for him.
