Oil-Squirting
Herbie
The identification
number of this Herbie, currently owned by Doug Kaufmann, is unfortunately
unknown. Found in the parking lot of a rental agency of sorts that
leased cars to be used in Hollywood films, the vehicle shows evidence of
being in both Herbie Goes to Monte Carlo and Herbie Goes
Bananas. There is also strong reason to suspect that this is the
car that squirted oil onto the traffic director's foot at the beginning of
Monte Carlo. Restored to be an actual race car, the car was
run in the late '90's in SCCA events. It has since been refurbished
to appear just as it would have in Monte Carlo. The
oil-squirting effect has been recreated using the original bracket in
place behind the rear seat upon which a pump is mounted that releases
liquid near the right rear wheel.

The
car as discovered in the early 1990's.

The
car after its initial restoration by Arthur Porter of Rocky Mountain
Motorworks.

The
car today, back to stock Herbie specifications.
