After her hour long nap Lucy started walking more, and trying to get back to normal.  By bed time the pain meds had worn off and she had to have some more pain killers, but she was walking around, eating well and drinking, and was in a general good humor.  This morning, you have to wonder if she had surgery at all, she's bouncing around and snoozing in her usual places, prancing, exploring and helping out in everything you do, just as a Giant Schnauzer should.

The two lumps that were removed (I noticed a second one when I was grooming her on Wednesday) were sent off to the diagnostics labs in California to be investigated further.  We're hoping to hear back from them on Monday or Tuesday, but it could take a little bit longer to find out what they are.  I got to see the lumps after the surgery (I asked to see them), and the one between the front legs is about the size of a small marble and the vet says it was encapsulated, felt quite fatty and he got very good margins.  The main lump that we were getting out looked pink and wrinkled, it was about 2.5 inches long and about an inch think, and looked like very large pecan in shape.
Lucy made it very well through surgery yesterday, June 18, 2004 to remove two lumps from her underside.

She even got to come home early because she woke up from the anesthesia well, and was walking and standing about an hour after surgery.  She had been very nervous  aftersurgery and the vet thought it best if she continued to recover more calmly at home.  When we picked her up the staff said that she had been very well behaved, but had been very vocal about having to stay in a crate and that we weren't there.  Normally at home Lucy is very quiet and she only barks when there is a good reason to bark, so I guess she figured she had good reasons to bark yesterday, poor little kid.  :o(

She was very happy to see us, and just wanted to go home.  For the first hour or so at home Lucy was very sleepy from the pain meds they had given her.  She felt very poorly, it hurt to lay down on the tummy, and her legs were still a bit wobbly.  She got the royal treatment, servants waiting on her hand and foot, her cool bed was placed on my bed, and she got to have all of the pillows.

Here she is being quite miserable.  You can see the two shaved locations, and one of the incisions.  The other one is between her front legs.
Rumors are true, Lucy actually has spaghetti for legs!
Being sick, Lucy gets to have her cool bed on our beds, thus getting to snooze in ultimate canine comfort and style.
The vet said that it wasn't encapsulated and had long tentacles streaming out from it in all directions, and it was difficult to get good margins, and the vet admits that he's not sure he got all of the tentacles because it was
so stringy and attached to everything.  Hopefully if it turns out to be nothing dangerous, it won't matter if he got good margins or not.  Hopefully we'll soon know what is going on with the large lump.
