From Fred's sister Lynda (Cracknell)

Fred showed incredible strength even though he knew  he was dying. Through all his pain he kept on smiling and laughing and talking with us - . The only time I remember seeing him 'aggro' was when he  commented crossly "..I just can't stand anyone blubbering.." - in typical Fred style.

We sat and talked about shared memories of our teenage years. His second car was a Goggomobile dart and he took me to my first ball in it. He was a pretty good big-brother to have around, even though we used to fight like cats and dogs when we were growing up.

His abilities as an electrician were legend, and mum and I were both very proud of the respect which other people held for him.

I never really got to know his two wives or family well as we lived in different places for many years, however in recent years when he was with Caroline we managed to stay more regularly in touch.

To me he seemed more content and settled over those years than I've ever seen him before.

I hope others who knew Fred, or other members of his family, will find this page and add a few words in his memory.
More words from the funeral service

Fred's life consisted to a great degree of the relationship he had with his mates.

He often spoke of them, he loved to have a beer with them [at the Anglers Arms and the Sanctury Cove Brewery],
He enjoyed parties and outings with his friends;
He was a loveable, likeable Aussie.

This message was sent without identification on 14 February 2001- the romantic in me hopes it's from an old girlfriend sending a last 'Valentine'?. Whoever you are, thankyou. Lynda
