Our Adelaide Adventure - Xmas 1997

My Nanna and Pop moved to Adelaide to stop
and invited us over for hollies.
Mum was keen as a bean but Dad a bit mean
'cause he thought Nan would stuff us with lollies!

We packed for the trip with a laugh and a skip
and Daddy bought a new 'Transit'
I told Nan on the 'phone but the silly old crone
thought I said I'd "bought a new Train-set"

We arrived in SA on a beautiful day
which was Christmas-eve ninety seven.
Three beds for us boys and cupboards of toys
was like being in little-boy heaven!

Xmas trees there were three, and Nanna and me
trimmed tree number three the same night.
Then we went off to sleep, in the morning to peep
at a wondrous fantastical sight!

The presents were piled as high as the sky
for all of us - 'specially me!
So we took it in shifts to open the gifts
'neath that wondrous xmas tree.

'Though I see my old Nan as much as I can
she's still a bit of a stranger.
But she's really OK, for this special day
she gave me a beaut Power Ranger.

Still I was sad - thought perhaps I'd been bad?
'cause my xmas poem was missing. But my Nan was just slow, so I want you to know
this poem is the reason we're kissing!

The Dinosaur Christmas

Raking the leaves
when the wind blows wild
is like trying to hold
an unholdable child.
But raking the leaves isn't such a chore
when compared to wrapping a dinosaur!

Unstringing lights from
the Christmas tree
usually leaves them strung around me.
But unstringing the lights isn't such a chore
when compared to wrapping a dinosaur!

Bill is Five Years Old

Our grandson Bill is five years old
And his proud mum says he's as good as gold.

Bill cleans his teeth and has his bath;
and cheers his Dad with a happy laugh.

Mondays to Fridays Bill goes to school
and learns his lessons - He's not a fool.

He picks up his toys and puts them away;
And helps his mum before going to play.

I was asleep?
What do you mean,
'my perfect grandson
was just a dream?'....

He pokes out his tongue and stamps his shoe
when there's something he doesn't want to do!

He turns on the telly when mum's not there;
and sometimes refuses to comb his hair.

He raids the fridge and won't do as he's told;
But then..my grandsons just five years old.

Don't scold him now, he'll look soooo sad;
'sides, when mum was five, she was twice as bad!

Happy Birthday Bill, from Nanna Lynda and Poppa Alan in Darwin
Bill's now Six - Pirates and Treasure

What special times will this year hold
for my grandson Bill who's now six years old?

Six is a wonderful age to be -
Two times more grown up than three,
and six and a half is half way between
being just born and being a teen'!

With his brand new watch he'll look just fine
as this year he learns to tell the time.
And when he's not busy riding his bike
no doubt he'll be flying his nice new kite.

During the year, the things treasured best
Bill can store away in his Treasure Chest.
But his 'Memory Box' is for storing away
the memories he'll want to recall someday.

Then in years to come Bill will easily find
those objects and memories which bring to mind
the very good times more precious than gold
of when he enjoyed being six years old.

Amongst the objects will hopefully be
this small simple verse to remind him of me.
But his memory-box, for the rest of his days
hold his 'Pirates Party' at Hungry J's.
