When a man desireth to build a house doth he not first of all make ready everything that he will require therefor? O MARY, I beseech thee to give unto me the spirit of knowledge, and since I desire to relate thy wonderful deeds make me to understand them, and make me to follow in a strait path thy glorious acts.

-- Prayer to Mary by an Ethiopic miracle compiler,
quoted in Budge's One Hundred and Ten Miracles of Our Lady Mary
(London: Humphrey Milford, Publisher to the Oxford University Press, 1933),
pg. lviii (A. Fol. 6b, col. 1)

Due to the great amount of information available on the relics of the life and apparitions of the Blessed Virgin Mary, this reliquary has been divided into sub-reliquaries. While the division between relics of Apparitions and miraculous images of the Blessed Virgin are artificial, this distinction exists because of information bias in favour of miraculous images.
