| 1. CAN I GROW ORCHIDS? Of course you can. If you can grow a houseplant then you can grow an orchid. BUT if you think you can grow just one plant you are WRONG. Don’t believe me? Well you just try, go on I dare you, you just try! 2. AREN'T ORCHIDS PARASITES? Of course they are! From the minute that you flower your very first plant they’ve got you. They take hold, they cause you to dispense with all rational thinking. & you find yourself giving all sorts of totally irrational arguments & excuses as to why you need more, more, MORE ……… Orchid should only sold with large Governmental Warnings attached. 3. AREN'T ORCHIDS TERRIBLY EXPENSIVE? They most certainly are! Oh sure you can by an individual plant at what might be considered a very reasonable price, as little as just a few dollars even. BUT then you need more & more plants, you fork out for all sorts of special housings, large amounts cash are poured into fuel & vehicle maintenance travelling vast distances to yet another orchid show, & so it goes. Yes orchids are terribly expensive! 4. DO I NEED A GREENHOUSE? No, but don’t be fooled, you will. As these parasitic little beauties latch onto you & you pour money hand over fist into your new found passion, you will indeed need somewhere to house them. You will spend hours of careful calculation working out the exact size of the house you will need, you will carefully select a site where it will nestle into your back yard, & the building begins. Already an error has been made, it doesn’t matter what size you have worked out for your greenhouse, IT WILL BE TOO SMALL. There is no known way around this problem it something experienced by all orchid enthusiasts at one time or another, the only remedy, throw more money at it! |
