July 31 – August 8, 1999
This is a completely self-indulgent personal journal of a once-in-a-lifetime experience -- an 'adventure' cruise to Southeast Alaska. Intended to be an in-your-face expedition, with naturalists at every step, the trip vastly exceeded expectations. The weather was perfect, the ship small, the passengers interesting, educated, eriudite and active, the crew warm, attentive, knowledgable and friendly. One passenger who had been on a total of seven such 'adventure' trips all over the world described these seven days and this corner of the world as "the most beautiful scenery on earth." When you see the pictures, taken with no expertise and no special equipment, you will see what he meant. And these pictures do not begin to capture the size and scope and raw beauty we experienced. I hope that through this journal you can sense even a little of the joy we experienced.
