John Ruaridh Mackenzie, Caberfeidh or Chief of the Clan Mackenzie Worldwide, 15th Earl of Cromartie, Viscount of Tarbat, Baron of Castlehaven. Better known for his other achievements than for his ancestors. He is a geologist and an explosives consultant by profession and has for the last decade run the affairs of the estate of Castle Leod, Strathpeffer, near Inverness. He and his family have lived in the Castle for that time and he tells questioning folk that it is rather like having a child who 'wants something all the time'.
For recreation he is a water colour painter and a mountaineer, being a member of the Mountaineering Council of Scotland, he has been climbing since he was 13 years old. He was part of the movement to create the Highlands and Islands University and the new Scottish Parliament.
He is married to Lady Janet who is a part time opera singer. They employed a NZ nanny from Ngaruawahia when the children were young. Now the two boys go to the local primary school. |
