The Clan Mackenzie New Zealand Society Inc. was established in May 1995 after an Inaugural Meeting held in Palmerston North, the central city of the North Island.

At Castle Leod in the September of 1994 the Caberfeidh had given his blessing to the idea of the  formation of the Society by Jock and Sonia Mackenzie. They had been approached by High Commissioner of Clan Mackenzie of Australia, Don Mackenzie, who asked if they were willing to make the commitment.

Initially there were 25 interested persons attended and this has grown by about eighty per year with the few who drifted off being out numbered by new members.

We have as the aims of our Society:
(a) To promote Friendship & kinship amongst
   Clan Members;
(b) To have written Communication between members;
(c) To arrange annual gatherings of members;
(d) To collect genealogical history;
(e) To support & promote Scottish culture.

At the present time we have over 400 members and they receive four newsletters per year.

There is one Social Gathering in June each year where the A.G. M. is held. Alternately this is a Luncheon /day and an overnight stay with a Ceilidh.

In between times the Representatives are free to arrange any type of function they feel fit in their areas.  Picnics, suppers and video afternoons are amongst the ideas.

We have District Representatives who act for the Commissioner when required.

Our Representations to Highland Games, Piping Competitions, and other Scottish flavour events is undertaken by willing helpers but though it is a good place to show the Banner the most members are gained from word of mouth and by members bringing their relations along to a function!
