The MacQueens were of the Clan Donald of the   Isles, and descended from the ancient Irish-Scots King Fergus the First, who   founded the island Kingdom of the Lords of the Isles in 300 B.C.

Their progenitor was Roderick Dhu Revan   MacSweyn, or MacQueen, a descendent of a daughter of one of the Island Lords.

For this he received a grant of land in   Inverness-shire, near the Mackintosh territory. MacQueen built a Castle   called Corrybrough, and thereafter remained in that district. He had fought   previously under the Chattan standard at Harlaw, and continued to march with   the Clan Chattan during the feudal contests and the Wars for the Stuart   Kings.

The MacQueens signed a bond of Manrent, holding   their lands from Mackintosh, who was Governor of Inverness. They acquired   wide territories in Inverness and Nairnshire.The two families intermarried,   and though the MacQueens were of MacDonald origin, they were for more than   three hundred years a loyal sept of Clan Chattan.
