I just bought my first mastiff puppy 1 week ago, and took her to our vet. and he put her on calcium supplements, and I come home and read your website and took her right off of them. He said she had rickets, am feeding her Iams puppy for large breeds, and plan on taking her off when she is 4 months. Thanks so much for the info.

I have been trying to read as much as possible and talk to many different people about mastiffs. Your page is great and I found your puppy page very helpful(potty training). I think it is great that you put a little toy with your scent and mommy dog scent & other pups to make the puppy moving transition more comfortable. The feeding section is great because I am sure a lot of people don't know to feed them properly and give them to much food when they are pups. Thanks for all your great information. Dear Donna, I re-visit your puppy pages each month. I learn something new each and every time and I think you have awesome graphics that make your web site interesting. Today, I re-read your article on bloat. As I read through the "Stages of Bloat", it was like watching my Friea die all over again. I lost my last dog to bloat and it was exactly as you described it. We went to bed during stage 1 thinking she was just being her normal self and had eaten a dead animal or some bush or plant outside. The vet who did the autopsy feels that Freia's bloat was caused by intestinal stress, as you mention, of not being able to digest 5 baby wipes that she sneaked out of the bathroom trash can about two days earlier. She only had about a half of cup of digested dog food in her stomach. If I may make a suggestion: Do you think it would be beneficial to list the series of shots/worming a puppy should get? You seem to cover everything in the puppy pages except that. I know you probably cover that in your contract with your puppies, but thought it might be helpful to someone who didn't know.
