Demolition Man

I used to really love this movie.  But something opened my eyes and now I realize the truth: while this movie has a pretty cool premise, it really fails to deliver.
This movie tries to be philosophical in presenting a world in which a utopian community is overthrown because people prefer the rougher world we live in today.  What it ended up being is just another action movie with some vague idea of also being sort of philosophical.
Edgar Friendly should have played a lot bigger role in the movie, since it's his character who actually has the idea that the utopian city of San Angeles isn't working.  He's the one who really causes the movie to happen, and he barely gets any time to do it.
Westley Snipes does contribute quite a bit as the villain.  Yes I do tend to like villains!  But seriously, he's upbeat, fun to watch, and of course can kick ass in fight scenes, especially hand-to-hand.  Plus he's the only one who seems to notice that both he and Stallone are unloading clips of every gun imaginable at each other, but never seem to hit.
This movie might not be so bad as to have to avoid it entirely, but you shouldn't expect too much from it.
