The Internet is Inbred! One thing that really pisses me off about the Internet is how inbred it is. If you've ever searched for anything online, you know exactly what I'm talking about. Looking for pictures for Dead 'Ard has made me painfully aware of this. For any given subjects there are always just a few pictures online, which are then used by dozens of fan sites. That means that the exact same pictures are being repeated and reused all over, with perhaps some slight changes in size or format. You can go to any number of official or unofficial pictures galleries and see the exact same pictures over and over again. The other thing that's totally inbred is posters. There are tons of poster sites on the internet. However, almost every single one links back to allposters.com. Most of these second-rate sites will usually list out-of-stock posters, so when allposters.com doesn't have a poster you're looking for, you go to these other sites and they say that they have it. But they don't, since they're just linking back to allposters.com and allposters.com doesn't have the poster. What's extremely sad about this is that often the sites taking pictures from other sites will try to repackage the pictures or pretend that they're the best site for the pictures/posters offered. This is obviously not true, since every other site is almost identical to them. Some sites don't even have the full collection, and only take a few dumb pictures. As everyone knows, inbreeding leads to retarted kids. And that's exactly what these sites are: retarted. I hope I've managed to avoid this by using the pictures in new ways on the Dead 'Ard site. Those pictures aren't there for being pictures, but for representing the things pictured. That's what pictures were originally intended for, isn't it? And for that purpose, the pictures get the job done. UPDATE: What's the sign of inbreeding? Really stupid people. Click here for a conversation I had with one.... |
