Khakh

Race: Half-Ogre
Class: Fighter

Life as a half-ogre living among humans is never easy, but Khakh seems to have adjusted in his own way.  He ignores the serious troubles in his life by refusing to take anything seriously.  He often pretends to be an honorable half-orc knight who makes up for his lack of sophistication with honest character.  This is, of course, untrue: he's no more a knight than a dragon.  He is an accomplished fighter, though, so when his associates invariably find out about his deception they rarely get upset.  He's so easygoing that it's hard to stay mad at him, and for someone as ugly and unhygienic, he can act likeable when he wants to, though only people who already know him give him that chance.
In reality, his given name isn't even Khakh.  He was raised by human parents who named him Christopher Thatcher.  He enjoys calling himself Khakh for two reasons, though.  For one, it sounds much tougher and ogre-like than Christopher.  And second, saying his name gives him a wonderful excuse to hock up a large ball of mucus to spit in the direction of whoever he's talking to.
Khakh gets along well with open-minded people with good senses of humor.  He dislikes wizards, seeing them as overly serious and not much fun.  He takes every opportunity to annoy anyone in his party who he sees as needing to "lighten up."  While not as stupid as he looks, Khakh will often pretend to be simpler than he really is to get people to underestimate him.
When adventuring Khakh is less focused on getting money and items and more intent on simply getting into as many fights as possible.  He enjoys the opportunity of beating people up and actually getting praised for it.  It doesn't hurt that going adventuring is a way of doing what he does best and getting paid for it.
If someone earns Khakh's loyalty and friendship they will have a loyal friend for life.  Khakh wouldn't think anything of sharing his last ration with a friend when he himself is starving, and he takes great pride in keeping his tough body between his party and anyone who would harm them.
Khakh usually wears crude leather traveling clothes, but he sometimes manages to somehow come up with most of a suit of battered plate mail.  He has a sharp-boned face with a scraggly mustache and beard covering some faded scars on his muzzle.  Long, greasy hair hangs over his strong back.  He is tall and in good shape, though not as bulky as some of his fellows.  Still, he is quite strong, and is very proud of his muscles.  When he grins, which is often when among friends, he reveals a set of more-or-less straight off-white teeth, some of which resemble small tusks.  His beady eyes glitter with mischief when he's telling a joke or playing a prank, and blaze with fury when he's in combat..

Origins:  I was looking back through my Vanilla Fantasy page and reading the half-ogre entry in Savage Species, so I decided it was time I made a half-ogre character.  I knew that half-ogres have great potential to be drama queens with tear-jerking background stories and moody personalities so I decided to make one that was a lot more easygoing and fun.
