Below you will find the virtually the same Commissioner's Note as posted in the league following the meeting. I added a disclaimer about money issues at the end. It is imperative that we all agree fully on money issues as to not alienate or handicap any one individual. Money is not pivotal to the league, it is merely an extra incentive. Therefore, it should not be a point of contention and hard-feelings. Also, you will find that the Wordpad and Excel draft files have been updated to reflect total years Kept as well as current money values; that is money spent on that individual for the 2006 season. I have doubled and triple checked the numbers, but, if any discrepencies are found please bring them to my attention for it is always possible that I "goofed." |

Season 7: The Halfway Point Hello All, I have Meeting Results to Post: We discussed a variety of issues at the meeting. I will outline what we (those at the meeting) decided upon. All results were UNANIMOUS. Those who weren't present can post your Agree/Disagree feelings. For instance, you can state, "I agree with number 3 but hate number 1 and this is why." So, here we go: 1) Increase all batter positions +5 max games played (going from 162 to 167). This is to increase the managers involvement with the team and reward those who manage more. For instance, over the course of a season you might be able to get 7 rbi from those extra games at a position, to where as someone who didn't WORK would get none. Giving an advantage to those who were "on top of things." 2) +1 P. Add a P spot, making it 4SP, 3RP and 3P and giving us 10 total active Pitchers along with our 12 active batters. This is to suck up some of that good FA pitching talent. That P spot will also allow managers to manage THEIR OWN way, be it using the spot on a starter, holder or saver. This leads to... 3) +150 IP. This gives us 1500 IP, a nice interval of a number. This allows for somone to use a starter in the extra P spot for atleast the majority of the year, but still requires that manager to be discriminatory on when he pitches that starter. Also, this allows plenty of innings for somone to use one or several RPs (in a platoon sense) in that new spot. 4) +1 Keeper Spot. This ups the number allowed to be kept from 4 to 5. Many expressed feelings of 6 or more, while a few were happy with the current 4. A comprimise was struck at 5. A unanimous agreement was also reached to make that change effective IMMEDIATELY. This is designed to remedy the problem we have had recently concerning meeting votes not taking effect for a year after they are agreed upon. Like passing something in Jan. 05 and it not mattering until the 06 season. By making the change known now teams still have plenty of time to acquire that extra keeper if need be, and, no teams have seriously started setting up for next year anyway, keeper wise. NOTE: It was unanimously agreed upon to lock this number of 5 keepers in for at least a few years to come prevent against the lag period just mentioned. 5) +1 Bench Spot. This was decided on to even out the number of keepers with the number of bench players. So, if someone wanted to use that new bench spot for a "real prosepect," that is a Delmon Young or Lastings Millage type, he could. Of course, the new bench spot would not be policed. Meaning it could be used for anything. The bench spot would also provide teams with an extra option in using up the 167 games discussed in issue number 1. 6) Flat 5 dollar increase on Keepers. We all decided that the sliding scale of +5, +7, +9 was impractical and that a +5 flat rate was more appropriate. However, this leads us to... 7) Max of 3 times Kept. A player can only be kept 3 times. That is you acquire a 1 dollar player. You can keep him for 6, then 11, then 16, but NOT for 21. Even if this player is traded, cut, reacquired, he CANNOT be kept 4 consecutive times. NOTE: You might notice that this is a reversal to the way things "used to be." Those present agreed that the system was made more cumbersome than necessary and a return to this format was most appropriate and fair to all, for a player can't be "locked up" for too many seasons. NOTE: This also applies retroactively. For instance, I kept Crawford this year and Rod kept him last year. I can keep him again for next year but not for the next. Don't worry, I have all these records saved. 8) A new REAL money system. It was agreed upon that some sort of incentive based pay scale be introduced. One was drawn up and agreed upon by those present. Here it is: Winner takes all 2nd place pays 5 dollars 3rd place pays 10 4th pays 15 5th 20 6th 25 7th 30 8th 35 9th 40 10th 70 This adds up to 250 dollars to the winner. We decided that last place should take the brunt of the pain. This will keep those teams near the bottom competing throughout the season even if they are well out of the top spots. Also, this will prevent a team from completing selling out their star talent for keepers. Sure, they can still do that but they must consider this payment plan. Also, this system would differentiate the 2nd place finisher from the 3rd and 3rd from 4th and so on... As long as a team has an average finish of 6 or better over the course of any given period, they actually SAVE money when compared to our current everyone pays 25 dollar system. Of course, in this system money wouldn't be due until World Series time. These 8 points conclude the issues discussed and approved upon at our meeting, held on July 8th, 2006. Those of you who weren't there. Please feel free to voice your opinion regarding these issues, but keep in mind, that all issues were agreed upon unanimously. NOTE: ALL MONEY ISSUES MUST BE A UNANIMOUS, LEAGUE-WIDE DECISION. |
