| The Maltese Own Band was the first Maltese Style band formed in Victoria and is still the largest of all Maltese band. Formed in 1977, the has had as many as 120 members and plays at over 20 Maltese feasts per year, as well as many ethnic community and cultural festivals and events. The band was oroginally formed fo play at tge feast of Our Lady of Victories at St Mary's Church in West Melbourne in September 1977 and has been growing stroner ever since, The band currently averages 60 band players, and has an elected Committee and numerous helpers. This year 2002 marks the 25th Anniversary of the Band. Many celebrations were organised throughout the year to celebrate this, including a Band Photos (7th April 2002), Band Recording (7th July 2002), a Concert (21st September) and a Reunion that was held on 9th June 2002. The Maltese Own Band also has a Youth Group, which was formed in 1999 with the intention of bringing together the Younger generation of the members of the Maltese own Band. The Youth Group is now opened to everyone, however, band members have special discounts and events. The Youth Group Committee consists of 6 young band players who work hard at organising Youth Group Functions. The Committee holds regular meetings to ensure the smooth running of the group. The Committee is always opened to new suggestions for Youth Group Functions. The Committee also coordinates a newsletter for the band and the Youth Group, which is distrubuted every 3 months. Past Youth Group Functions have included Bowling Nights, Rollerblading Nights, Video Nights, Luna Park Rides, Summer BBQ's, All-you-can-eat Lunches, Snow Trip to mt Buller and the Royal Melbourne Show. In February 2003 we held our first camp which was a great successs. The Committee is currently the following functions: * Video Night - March 2003 Youth Group Webpage Band Performance Schedule Page I am the Secretary for the Youth Group, the Assistant Secretary of the Band, and play 1st Clarinet in the band.
