This site will focus on the Appalachian people called Melungeons. Never heard the word Melungeon? Hopefully we can help answer some of your questions. You'll find many links here pointing to other Melungeon sites on the web.
Here you can also listen to an original Melungeon song performed by 12 year old Country/Folk performer, Shalacy Manderson. The song was written by her parents and simply titled "The Melungeon Song". To use the words from the Appalachian Quarterly Magazine, 'It is a hauntingly beautiful tribute to our ancestors'.
When you leave these links and pages we hope that you leave with a much broader knowledge of these people. Of course we can't give you *all the answers because we don't have them, but we can start you on a journey of interest and discovery. A journey where you'll find that our history books left out a few very important facts...along with some very important people. A forgotten people...called The Melungeons.
