This department is devoted to uncovering the truth behind the Agency on Scarecrow & Mrs. King. How, you may ask, can we prove that what we see on our screens isn't real life, but a work of theatrical art? How can we prove that Amanda King and Lee Stetson are fictional characters? By pointing out the clues that lead us to the conclusion:

SCARECROW & MRS. KING IS REALLY JUST A TV SHOW.

Bloopers. We've all seen them more than once on a variety of shows. Personally I don't look at it as being nitpicky~ noticing a misplaced apple on a car in a parking lot scene, for instance, is just a way for us mere humans to delve into the fantastic fantasy world we're a part of for an hour a day (minus commercial interruption). By noticing these little quirks we're not downplaying the show, we're just bringing it down to reality a bit and finding a bit of humor in the sublime.

Below are the observations made by some very well-trained Agents that have lead us to our conclusion. However, we are constantly looking for more evidence to back up our theories. If you have evidence you would like to share, send the file to MandaScarecrow@aol.com. All information will be kept anonymous to protect the innocent.

In The Artful Dodger- Lee and Amanda go to check out J. C. Grangers apartment, Lee gets his kit out to pick the lock and Amanda ("I just had a feeling") just opens the door, it turns out that there is no lock, its basically a closet door.

In The Legend of Das Geisterschloss- Lee retreives the bomb and pronounces that there are 90 seconds left. it actually takes 2 minutes and 13 seconds before it goes off.

In Playing For Keeps, when Francine and Lee drive up to the abandoned barn, Lee is wearing a gray suit. When the bomb goes off and they show Lee hitting the ground, he's wearing a white jacket with light blue pants. When Francine runs over to him, he's again wearing the gray suit.

In The Pharoah's Engineer, Ray Packer is the only member of Code:Pyramid that is still active. When Lee and Billy are talking to Ray in Billy's office, Lee goes to thank Ray for the information he gives them. Lee calls him Rick instead of Ray.

There never seems to be traffic jams and a lot of traffic anyone driving on the Beltway would be stuck in traffic for hours....especially in the afternoon on a weekday.

The way the phone booths on SMK look --nothing like a phone booth in DC. (Many Episodes)

The way they sometimes show mountains in the background--there are none in the DC area. (Car Wars and others)

The way they show Rock Creek Park with buildings and major traffic in the background--doesn't look anything like that--It's a long narrow two lane parkway that is like a corridor of forest from MD almost all the way to the Kennedy Center in DC. It makes you feel completely isolated from the city. (One Bear Dances the Other Doesn't)

The occasional Palm trees--The only ones in the DC area are inside of shopping malls. (Several Episodes)

The idea that one would take the beltway to go from Georgetown or anywhere in DC, just to go across the river to Arlington--The beltway runs the entire distance around DC through MD and VA. It basically NEVER touches DC ---thus the news phrases "Inside the Beltway".

The idea that there is any kind of a tunnel anywhere near DC or the suburbs--other than the tiny one in Rock Creek Park near the National Zoo or the major one that Route 395 goes under a small part Washington on (and it's rectangular not round). (Savior)

The Rose Bowl instead of RFK stadium. (Stemwinder part 2)

Skyscrapers in DC--forbidden by law, Buildings are not taller than the Capital (Several episodes)

The idea of travelers walking to or from the plane out in the open at Dulles Airport. The airport was uniquely designed for people to travel in special Buses that link directly to the Airport then they un-link and drive across the grounds way out to the plane and then link up with the plane and people directly walk into the plane. (Nightcrawler)

The whole notion that anyone can easily park ANYWHERE in DC especially in Georgetown--It's impossible! (Most episodes)

A panoramic shot of the Capital facing West with a helicopter going to find a microwave dish, Lee says, "OK let's head north to Dupont Circle along Connecticut" (which is due northwest of the capital), and then the helicopter veers off southeast in the exact opposite direction. (Reach For the Sky)

Silver Springs Airport--The town's name is Silver Spring (no 's')--and there is NO airport. (Off To See the Wizard)

A playground anywhere near Dulles--Don't think so, ONLY airport traffic can get anywhere near that airport by special access road. (Dead Ringer)

The way Amanda's house and her neighbors houses keep changing their appearance.

Family / friends being allowed to watch surgery on their loved one. (The Eyes Have It)

Lee was 4 when his parents were killed AND Lee was 5 when his parents were killed. (One of the early episodes ------The Eyes Have It & Unfinished Business)

Lee's uncle is Col. Clayton-his mother is British, His father a Stetson-How can this be?

The Cumberland being two completely different looking buildings. (Weekend and The Triumvirate)

Lee running down the 15th floor stairway twice in a row (Double Agent).
