The real Trowa Barton discovered that they had changed Operation Meteor's from Earth to OZ. And that didn't bode well with the son of Dekim Barton. He was going to spill the beans to his father when the creator's assistant shot him. The creator admonished him for doing so, but the assistant explained that he had family on Earth.
Then Trowa put in an appearance. He offered to take Heavyarms AND assume the identity of Trowa Barton, and the scientist/creator agreed.

Background: I'm not THAT clueless about Trowa's past, and I was able to research the topic. When Trowa, or rather, TRITON, was four years old, he was traveling with his family, a circus troop of acrobats. Then, he was Triton Bloom, the youngest of the Bloom performers. Catherine was with them, just a few years older than Trowa. She named him Triton after the handsome god of the sea in Greek mythology. They were with Triton's father and pregnant mother, and the four of them were traveling to Europe. Before they could hit the country's border, they became trapped in a crossfire between the Alliance and some smaller group of rebels. Flames engulfed their dinky little wagon. Only Cathy managed to escape before the wagon exploded before her. The other circus members were waiting in Europe for the family. Somehow, Catherine managed to meet up with them, and they took her in as their daughter. Years later, she met up with Trowa at the circus, and she got this feeling that deep down, she knew him. Someone from her past. One day, while preparing for a performance, Catherine caught sight of a large burn scar on Trowa's back, and he didn't know where it was from. Sa Cathy believes that Trowa is indeed her long-lost brother, Triton.
