Biography | ||||||
Sophie Ellis Bextor is the daughter of ex-Blue Peter presenter Janet Ellis (Janet now appears on Channel 5's 'The Wright Stuff') and Robin Bextor, a television director. Robin used to direct videos for 'theaudience' and more recently helped create Sophie's dvd 'Watch My Lips'. Indie band, 'theaudience' came together when Songwriter/Instrumentalist Billy Reeves added Sophie as lead vocalist to his already 5-piece band. The band released four singles and one album in total but, unfortunately none of them gave them the success they'd hoped for. The audience members went their separate ways when Billy walked out. Sophie was left at a bit of a loose end and decided to seek after a solo career. After a period of about six months, Sophie was offered the vocals on Spiller's track 'Groovejet. To begin with, she rejected it but after a while, having played around with lyrics, Sophie decided to take it.Groovejet shot straight to number one in the Summer of 2000, keeping 'Out of your mind' 'posh spice' Victoria's collaboration with Dane Bowers off of the top spot. Sophie's famous debut solo single 'Take me Home' was also a great success and introduced the world to 'Read my Lips' - Sophie's debut album. With amazing other songs 'Murder on the dancefloor', ' Get over you' and 'Music gets the best of me' it's no wonder 'Read my lips' did so well. Sophie is now currently working on her second album and the first single taken from it should hopefully be released next month. |
