| Chapter 11 Harley stepped back into the hotel room to find Mika pretending to be asleep. She laughed to herself at the obviousness of her friend’s inability to act. "I’m not mad at you anymore.", Harley said as she slipped into her pajamas. Mika still pretended to be asleep, except for a smile crept across her face. Harley smiled at the site as she laid down in the bed and turned off the light. "Goodnight, Mika." "Goodnight.", Mika said forgetting that she was suppose to be asleep. It was silent for a split second until Mika said, "Damn.", under her breath. Suddenly they both busted out laughing and couldn’t stop. "What’s so funny?", Joey’s voice cracked. "Nothing, sweetie. Go back to sleep.", Harley said as she pulled the covers back over her son. As her eyes adjusted to the dark, she looked at Joey’s sleeping form. For the first time in many years, Harley felt good about the situation. There was an unexplainable peace that filled her heart. She soon drifted off to sleep. The next morning, the phone rang early. "Hello?", Harley said half asleep. "I’m sorry, did I wake you?", the voice said. "Yes. Who is this?" "I’m sorry. It’s Jeff." "It’s okay and stop apologizing." "Sorry." They both laughed. "I was wondering if you could meet me somewhere for breakfast." "Umm. Sure, I guess.", she said looking at the clock, "What time?" "I could meet you at Denny’s down on the corner from your hotel in say, an hour?" "An hour? Okay." "Okay. I’ll see you in a bit." "Bye." She hung up the phone and pulled the covers over her head with a groan. "You’ll be late if you don’t get up now.", Mika said from her bed. "I’m goin, I’m goin.", Harley said dragging herself out of the bed and getting into the shower. As soon as she was done getting ready, she checked on her son who was still sleeping and then headed out the door. But not before asking Mika if she minded watching him again. "Of course not. Go. Eat. Have fun." Harley gave her a quirky smile and walked out of the hotel room.
