Chapter 10 Kari had just drifted off to sleep when her cell phone rang.  She ignored it and snuggled back into her pillow thinking that her voice mail would get it.  But as soon as it would stop ringing, it would start again. "Are you going to get that?", Adrian mumbled as he put his pillow over his head. "I think maybe I’ll just turn it off.", she said reaching for the phone.  "Sounds like someone really needs to get you.  Maybe it’s important.", he said from under the pillow.  She looked at him and then answered.    "Hello?"    "It took you long enough."    "Hey Jase."    "Why haven’t you called?"    "I’ve just been busy."    "Too busy to call your best friend in the world?" She didn’t know what to say. "You’re best friend in the world who has spent the last   two weeks dealing with the fall out of YOUR problems."    "What are you talking about?"    "Four little letters dear.  J E F F."    "Well, he’s YOUR  friend."    "Yes, he is.  But you are my friend too.  I can’t believe that   you didn’t call me and tell me what’s been going on." She glanced over to see that Adrian was back asleep.  She didn’t want to disturb him, so she went into the other room. "Are you still there?"    "Yeah, sorry.  I had to go in the other room."    "OH.  He’s there huh?"    "Yes.  And I don’t want any shit about it either.  I got enough of that from   Blake."    "And Matt too, huh?"    "What are you talking about?"    "Girl, do you ever check your voice mail?  Matt has left a bunch of            messages for you.  So has Shea.  And I won’t even go into how many Jeff  has left."    "Well, that’s kind of why I haven’t checked it.  I just don’t want to hear    his excuses anymore."    "Look, you are both my friends.  And if it comes down to the loyalty thing,   you know where mine lies.  But I think you really need to talk to him.  If   nothing else, so I don’t have to listen to him anymore."     Kari and Jason both laughed. "I don’t know."    "At least promise me that you will think about it."    "Okay.  I promise."    "Well, I just wanted to make sure that you were okay.  And tell you to get   yourass home soon.  I miss you.  This house is too big and empty without   you here."    "Awww….you miss me!  I’m touched." He chuckled.  "I’m going to let you get back to your little torrid affair now.  And I’ll still     pick you up at the airport in a few weeks.  Let me know if the plans      change."   "Okay.  I’ll talk to you soon.  I love ya sweetie."    "I know.  Bye." She hung up the phone and shook her head laughing at Jason.  She turned off her phone as she stepped back into the bedroom.  She climbed back into the bed and into his arms.  He smiled, never opening his eyes as he snuggled up to her.  She sighed and then drifted off to sleep again.             Last Chapter ..*..
