City Limits by Katie Davis - Steward Source: The Beginning of the Tumbling, (2004), p.106 For the first time in my life I did not know one person and I was in a huge city filled with people. That was my first night in Pittsburgh. My roommate hadn't arrived yet, classes didn't start for two days, and initially I can actually be very shy and wait for someone to come talk to me first. Then over the next five years, I began to feel I knew the entire city. I wasn't the typical college student who went home every weekend, every holiday, and every summer, as most of the girls at my college did. I became a local. I was there when it was just "Pittsburgh". I worked regularly, had a long-term relationship, and could make any plans with my best friends well in advance. I had a blast back then. Now I feel I am back to that first night again, though, and it's lasting a pretty long time - 6 months already. It's harder to meet people when I live with my husband instead of in a crazy dorm or over-crowded apartment. I'm finishing my college career online. And I'm still the same way around people when I first meet them. I don't know if San Diego will turn out to be another kind of "Pittsburgh" or just another city I lived in. ---------------------------------- Always Full, Never Fresh by Katie Davis - Steward Source: The Beginning of the Tumbling (2004), p.92 My mom has pots of coffee brewing all day long, so it may seem she must drink it like a fiend. Actually, having a coffee warmer and a microwave helps her work. on only a few cups a day. With all her errands, running kids everywhere and anywhere, and keeping up the house, I know she very rarely gets her own fresh cup. Everyone else, though, helps themselves as they wander in, out, and around, while she does all the work. She waits until right before bedtime to possibly kick back with that one full and fresh cup of coffee. That only happens a great once in awhile. ------------------------------------------------- (Copyright(c) 2004 by Katie Davis-Steward) Do you like the poems of Katie Davis-Steward?
