Bayreuth, Germany
15 May 2004
Bayreuth is home to picturesque gardens, the Wagner "Festspielhaus" (opera and theater house) and Wagner's Haus Wahnfried (estate name). Liszt (another famous composer) was his next door neighbor!! It was a 2 for 1 deal!!
This was the drive up to the Festspielhaus.
We took a quick picture on the back terrace, which is what you see driving up to the Festspielhaus.
The entrance to the Theater. The tourist books remark on the plainess of the exterior and that it is not very ornate, but we thought it was one of the more beautiful buildings in Germany. Maybe it was the ambiance!
There always needs to be time for a bit of running in the fresh cut grass.
It's hard to beat quacking at the ducks. This beautiful "river" (which surrounds a small island) is home to several mallards and located in Wagner's backyard.
Recognize this guy? That's right Wagner himself.
Wagner and his wifes' grave with their only estate in the background.
A monument in the center of town dedicated to all of the wars the town had fought.
As you can see there are no pictures of Liszt's house. Unfortunately, due to time constraints no pictures were able to be taken. Although I highly recommend it to anyone who visists!!
