Deutsches Wein Strasse
16 May 2004
The "Deutsches Wein Strasse" (German Wine Road) stretches the length of the Pfalz region of Germany and is centrally located near the Black Forest. The road twists and turns through many small villages whose whole economic stability is centered on the grape or more particularly wine. We took the day and drove this road occassionally stopping at some very scenic sights.
Bad Durcheim is located on the northern most tip of the Wein Strasse. Here you see one of the restaurants dedicated to ... you got it wine!!
Burg Trifels. Said to be one of the most "impossing" castles in Germany and one which possibly detained Richard the Lionheart. It housed the Crown Jewles for several hundred years. While we were unable to get inside for a look around (another timing thing) the drive up to it was humbling. We hope to get back to it and get a closer look.
Bobby and Henry posse for a picture on top of Burg Landeck. We drove around for a couple of hours trying to get to the peak of this castle. The time was well worth it. The food was delicious the music was enjoyable and the view was spectacular take a look for yourself at the picture to the right.
