Alright folkies…
The last time I saw the band play at Stirling castle was August 1997 on the Thursday night. It was my first ever Runrig concert and it was one which sadly I cant remember much about. I was only around 12 years old but was running round school that day enthusiastically telling anyone who’d listen that I was going to see Runrig that night. (Of course most didn’t have a clue what I was talking about)
We got a puncture on the way to Stirling that made us miss the support act. Probably a good thing since I was too young and impatient even to enjoy all of Runrig anyway. When Donnie Munro appeared on stage I was pretty thunderstruck I could hardly believe that this was it, my fave band performing live with wee me in the audience. However it didn’t take long for me to get fed up and by the time Going Home came on I was secretly thinking to myself “good idea, lets go home”.
That night, when I got home, I cried my little eyes out. I never went to school the next day as I like many others thought that this was the end of Runrig. How wrong I was…
The in search of angels tour gave me my first glimpse of Bruce Guthro and it was then that I really started to take an interest. First step was to buy a band photo and actually learn the names of my heroes. Nothing much else happened until January 2001 when I built my Iain Bayne website - RavensCraig. That May marked the beginning of the Stamping Ground tour and also gave rise to one of the most fun times I’ve had Runrig related.
As a way of saying thanks for the work done on his site I got an invite to attend a sound check at the Falkirk gig on the 22nd of May. First thing was to actually find the door to the town hall and when I got there Iain was waiting, I got a hug then, which for a teenage fan like me, should have been great. Thing was I was so nervous that the idea I might actually be sick all over him was dominating my thoughts. Thankfully the latter didn’t happen and I was given an insight on all that happens behind the scenes and on the way out had backstage passes shoved into my hands.

Thank you Runrig for all the great times and keep on Riggin’!

Not only is this year runrig's 30th but it's my Mum's 60th. I got her into Runrig about 6 years ago, and we've been to quite a few concerts together now. For the last couple of years whenever her 60th been mentioned she's said " I want to see Runrig in Scotland please" so I'm really pleased to be able to make this come true. It's the first time either of us have seen them in Scotland so are both really excited about it, it also gives us a weekend away, gives my husband and dad a break too, because as much as we try we can't turn them into riggies, although did catch my other half listening to celtic collections the other day!
I loved Runrig before I lent my mum a tape of amazing things to listen to, but because she loves it as much, it means that despite the fact we lives miles apart and don't see each other much we always have something to talk about, whether it's new albums, concert plans, or the latest wire competiton.
I can't wait till August, my mum gives me a weekly countdown, I think it's going to a great day, the atmosphere at Runrig concerts is like nothing else and I think Stirling will be extra special.
Look forward to seeing you all there, lets make it a great party!!

See you at Stirling
