Straight Through the Heart
Cupids Arrow
Part 1-by Heather
"Lord, what fools these mortals be," I think to myself. An
inspired quote, I'm glad I thought of it. I gave it to that
guy, what was his name...ah yes, Will Shakespeare. Dear
fellow, really had a way with words.
I look down again at the objects of my scorn. A pretty
blonde girl and a handsome dark-haired man. I've been
watching them for quite some time. Very stubborn pair of
humans. They are meant to be together, I would know. Yet,
they continually push each other away.
I fly down a few feet in front of them. They can't see me,
but I can see and hear them. They are arguing...yet again.
I roll my eyes as I begin to listen in.
"Danny, tell me again, why does it have to be this way?"
demanded Michelle.
"I told you, it's for our own good!"
Such foolishness. Don't they realize they can fight better
together than apart?
"But Danny, I don't understand!"
"I know baby!" He reaches up and tucks a stray hair behind
her ear. "But, if Mother finds out that we know,
she'll...she'll make life very difficult for us. You know
that."
Oh yes, his stupid mother. I really ought to prick her with
one of my arrows, they probably wouldn't work on her.
Should use a real one, the kind that does more than make you
fall in love. The more permanent kind. I laugh.
"I know Danny," says Michelle, starting to cry. "It's just
so unfair." Danny takes Michelle in his arms and lets her
cry.
You're making it hard on yourself, I want to scream at them.
How can you be so blind to each other! Foolish, foolish,
foolish. I shake my head. I've heard enough.
I fly back up to my perch above their heads. I have to
think. What can I do, short of shooting them with my
arrows, to push them together. I don't want to use my
arrows just yet, but it may come down to that. They are so
incredibly stubborn that I may have too. What will I do?
