Straight through The Heart
Part 10
By Carla
Writer's disclaimer. The Cupid saga was ended nicely by our
last round robin author and was very informative and
explained our Cupid's background and his purpose. So,
consider this, if you are happy with the way things ended,
cease reading now. However, if you wish to see our little
Cupid deal with the question of his immortality, To be or not
to be (There is that Shakespeare fellow again) then please
feel free to continue with our round robin. And just
remember, you have been sufficiently warned.
When we last left our little winged messenger of love, he was following our couple off of the airplane that had finally landed in San Cristobel with most of the cast of Springfield in tow. A mystery person has grasped the last of our dear Cupid's positive arrows. This is the last arrow and must be used wisely otherwise Cupids delicate plan of bringing our couple together may fail. Who is this mystery person? Where did he come from? What will he do with this last precious arrow?
The answers to this and many more will be found in chapter 11 of our ongoing saga. But before we venture there, Cupid has asked me to apologize for the demented ramblings of his mother recently. True, she is the goddess of beauty but sometimes she just needs to get over herself. After all, beauty is only skin deep and as a wise prophetess once told me, external beauty fades and internal beauty radiates.
He may have been reduced to a diaper wearing laughing stock only thought of on the 14th of February each year, but the royalties he raked in each year were enough that he could finally entertain the idea of leaving the ranks of the immortals and finally experience true love himself.
So with that in mind we will venture off in to part 10 or our saga entitled Last Chance.
Cupid exits the plane and knowing that his time was limited before his mother would surely summon him again, he begins to plot his strategy. Danny and Michelle seem to have gotten back on track after their little tryst in the bathroom while the airplane was in flight. He had heard Danny refer to them as having joined the mile high club or something like that. He always thought the mile high club was a band of people that came from Denver or watched the Broncos or something like that. He didn't know, baseball wasn't his thing.
He followed them through customs and watched the couple until they were safely tucked away in a cab all by themselves. The rest of the Springfield bunch, whom Cupid referred to as The Uninvited, was having a much more difficult time of finding traveling accommodations as our happy couple had. Cupid looked up in the heavens and smiled. It seemed his mother was putting her two cents worth in now and he would let her help in this situation. He knew that he could never expect her to offer her help again once she found out he was falling for a mere mortal woman again. She hadn't liked him falling for Psyche but since she had now been elevated to the rank of demigoddess, she didn't object anymore, but this longing for this new mortal woman would send her through her cloud.
She had always told him he was special and had even recently reminded him of who he was and what was expected of him (see chapter 9). How could he tell her that he didn't want to be like her or the others? He wanted what Danny and Michelle had found and he wasn't entirely convinced that his arrows had anything to do with their, or anyone else on this planet earth for that matter, falling in love.
He wanted to see what this love stuff was all about. His mother wouldn't like it and neither would Psyche but he wanted to try to find it for himself. He already had his eye on one particular mortal, Pilar Santos. She was beautiful but even more important than that, she was not very bright. He liked to think of her as a flower that had not yet seen the light of day.
She would never notice that he was different and he felt sure that as long as he had enough money to keep her in the lifestyle in which she had become accustomed, that he would have a shot at her. It wasn't like she was very picky or anything. She had chosen Bill Lewis after all and was now considering taking up with David Grant whom anyone who has been watching the show could tell you, is just using her to get to her family.
He would be the kind of mortal that would appreciate her for the sweet, vapid young lady she was. Being married to Psyche was so hard and he had recently discovered that he could dissolve his marriage to her based on immortal differences.
He went back to the airplane intent on getting back his last arrow that had been caught by the wrong person. That arrow could be just the thing he needed to get Pilar interested in him. Once he had her attention, he felt sure he could make the rest work. But first he had to wrestle the arrow away from the very last person he had ever wanted to have possession of the only remaining arrow.
He boarded the plane and saw Dietz holding the arrow and eyeing the tall, auburn haired flight attendant appreciatively. Cupid doubted even the arrow would be enough to get this particular woman interested in such a man as Dietz. He wasn't exactly the kind of man that women swooned over.
What did he want with that arrow anyway? Had he hoped to use it for himself? How did he plan on using it? Was he going to attempt to make someone fall in love with him against his or her will? That was not what the arrow was for. The arrow was just a little prodding device meant to help two stubborn people who were already in love realize that they cant live without each other and make their audience happy.
He hung his head in shame when he realized that he was planning on using that last arrow for the very same reason. He wanted to make Pilar Santos fall for him and allow him to be mortal. To allow him to feel the feelings that these foolish humans called love. To want to feel like he belonged to someone other than his mother.
He knew why he was so adamant about bringing Danny and Michelle together. Danny and Cupid were equals although in unparalleled universes. Aphrodite was Carmen as Danny was he. He must get out from under his mother's thumb and be allowed to choose his own path.
Suddenly he had a revelation. He smiled to himself and realized there was a way for this to all work out. Maybe one arrow was all they needed after all. He smiled and went over to Dietz and ever so subtly pulled the arrow out of his grasp and made his way out of the airplane leaving Dietz alone in the airplane wondering where his arrow had gone. Don't worry Dietz buddy, Cupid said to himself. If this works out the way I plan, we both will get what we want.
