Excerpt from... "A Ship Named Enterprise" USS Stealthlon 17:11 SET 2190 Admiral Blackbird stood on the bridge, impassive as the giant robotic square object decimated yet another Imperial Long Sword ship. It seemed as if a direct attack could not scratch the surface of the newly-arrived phenomenon. It seemed to have no alliance; it seemed to be randomly attacking both Imperial and UNSF ships. "Orders, Admiral?” Captain Ordese asked, disturbing the silence of the bridge. “Tell the fourth to fall back,” he said. “Regroup at coordinates two-three-seven, mark four.” “Aye.” Immediately, the call went out; all ships from the fourth fleet began to retreat and reorganize a safe distance from the giant object. Other fleets, UNSF and Imperial, did the same. “Should we attack, sir?” Commodore Cain asked, having no idea what answer he’d get. The commander of the fourth fleet shook his head. “No. There seems to be nothing to gain in attacking. It doesn’t have any weak spots.” “Another phenomenon opening, sir!” called Commander Hayes. “Starboard!” The bridge crew of the Stealthlon watched as a ship of strange yet familiar design appeared from the wormhole, already firing o the alien object. “Is it a friendly?” Captain Ordese wondered aloud. The Communications officer spoke up. “We’re about to find out. They’re hailing us.” “On screen,” said Blackbird and Cain at the same time. On the screen appeared a ship’s bridge, its setup similar to those of UNSF ships. Standing in front of the screen was a balding man in a uniform unfamiliar to Blackbird. Behind him were others, a tall distinguished man with pointed ears, an incredibly old man that looked more mechanical than human, and another man who looked more seasoned than anybody else on the screen. “Who are you?” Admiral Blackbird asked. “I am Captain Jean-Luc Picard of the Starship Enterprise,” the balding man said with a deep rich voice. “We’re here to help.” |
