“You wanted to see us, Admiral?” Captain Matthew Vaughn asked, entering the office that belonged to the Commoner-in-Chief of the UNSF.

As usual, Admiral Story was behind his giant oak desk which was overflowing with paperwork.  “Gentlemen, sit down,” he said, forgoing his usual cheery greeting and gesturing to the two chairs that were placed in front of his desk.  Mansel took one, Vaughn took the other.  Both men say patiently and waited for the Admiral to collect his thoughts.

“There’s been a series of attacks along our boarder,” he started, surprising both men, who had not been aware.  “We’ve identified the attacker to be Captain Myrett Stevens.”

“Chalky?” asked Captain Vaughn, who was obviously familiar with the lone female captain.

Mansel, who was not as aware, turned to his counterpart.  “’Chalky?’”

“Yeah, that’s what they call her; Chalky the Imperial Menace.  She’s the only female Imperial captain there is.”

“Correct,” said Admiral Story.  “Intelligence shows that she might be trying to physically push her way into to UNSF space, with other Imperial armies not far behind.  I want you two to stop her.”

“’Stop her?’” echoed Mansel.  “Use of deadly force, if necessary?”

“Yes.   The C-in-C leaned forward in his chair.  “If push comes to shove, you have my order to shoot to kill.”
