| Excerpt from 'Hero's Trial' Jim grabbed Mansel's shoulder and looked him deep in the eyes and nodded as if to say it could be their last minute standing around each other. Mansel nodded back, recieving Jim's unspoken message. "Just hold out until the evac team gets here, man. I got TJ working on it now." Eric also gave a quick single nod as if he was accepting a terrible fate that was to befall him and his colleagues. Brungess tooke a quick look about. "Alrigh...shoot to kill. Just make sure they don't ever get around to doing the same to you." Mansel nodded and checked to make sure that both his guns were loaded and ready. Eric looked at his assault rifle. "Was a good birthday gift, Jim," Mansel looked at his guns. "...Oh, wow, these were the guns you gave me Eric!" He looked them over and weighed them in his hands. "They won't let you down, man." Brungess held his sniper rifle, holding a clip pin in his mouth, as he loaded one silver shell into the cartridge. Mansel pulled the hammer back on both his guns, all business now. He know too much was at stake. "Let's get this over with." Brungess finished loading the rifle and took one last look at Mansel and Meelan. "God speed, Captain." Mansel wished him the same and looked over at Meelan. "This is the fun I signed up for, but now it's real." He took a look at his guns. "Come on, Golden Boy." Meelan grinned. "After you, mon capiton." \ "That's more like it. We're off." Eric nodded and patted Mansel on the back before the captain started to run to take some of the troops. He did the sign of the cross, remkard that he wasn't even Catholic, and followed Mansel into the dust, disappearing from Jim's sight. |
