HISTORY
ManTazH was formed on thanksgiving in 1994 by Mike Summar and Tony Smith.
Ever Since we have had a number of member changes and a multitude of music changes. we have tried everything from hard rock to hardcore heavy metal you know like kiss to type o negative.
To Menu
Our first line up consisted of Mike Summar Rhythm Guitar, Tony Smith Drums, And Mike D Clarkson on lead vocals. Then we hired a Lead Guitarist Named Wayne Rowe. We never got the chance to play out anywhere we only played in the basement of Waynes Home.
It wasn't until we hired James Hawks on Bass, that we started getting a set together, and before long,we thought we were ready to take the world by storm!
We got signed up for the Battle Of The Bands at Scooch's in September, 1996. We got up there
scared to death, but actually won the first round! With a month to go before the final round we
hired Lead Guitarist, Nycoma Scott. He was pretty good at learning fast, but when we got to Scooch's in October, they couldn't mic his amp properly. I dont even know if anyone heard him or not. We came in a controversial second place. Mike D. had awards made up for us. Not long after that Nycoma lost interest , and quit coming around. We were also starting to have problems with James as well. 1997 was unproductive except for some original songs that didn't get heard outside of practice. We fired James eventually, but problems with Mike D. started, so in anger he left the band. Oh he still hung around for a while, but not in a band capacity.
So now Mike and I started rebuilding. Buddy Henager answered  our ad, and said he played with a guy who had some good originals, and played Lead Guitar, his name, John Gamble. They were in the band Lazy Bonz together. So we worked up their material with ours, and we had what we thought was the best hard rock band in the area. Still for some reason the public did not buy in to Mantazh. Even new and improved we still could not win over the Scooch's management, so we settled on being an opening act for bands there when we could get a foot in the door. Shows were few and far between, but we kept the fight going. We ended up with   a steady gig at Sidetrack Cafe' in Troutville. But by this time Tony was getting tired of the way things were going. He decided to leave the band after the last Sidetrack show, but Mike had set up Mantazh to open for Without Warning at the Roanoke County Teen Center, then a week later at Scooch's. That was the final Mantazh show June 13, 1998. Soon after the band pretty
much disolved. The band had tried to get back together in  early 2000, but it did not last a month.
This band was a great experience. I Tony "The Rattlesnake" Smith am happy to say I was a part of it.
