Music Box

Lyrics:

Dust me off and lay me down
Again
Drag me through what you've been through before
To no end
It's not enough that I'm in love
With you
Bits and pieces of my memories remain...

BRIDGE:
For you to wash away
For you to steal from me
For you to leave today
Lying in my ruins

CHORUS:
I don't want to believe in all of your lies
But anything that I adore leads to my demise
You know just how to tap into my worries and my fears
But your everything is music to my ears

The music box up in my attic
It's yours
Its melody plays in my head
Open sores
Its tiny mirror shows my reflection
I can't look
Bits and pieces of my life remain...

COMMENTS:

"We were all just sitting around in Justin's room one day, and his mom came in and said we needed a soft song or two, she was tired of listening to non-stop headbanging stuff on the radio. So, here's our soft song. It's got a cool little arppegio in it that's in a jangly alternate tuning on guitar, but it leaves a lot of space so that when the bass comes in, it can have all of these beautiful melodies that Alex plays. Justin's drums are very tasteful and restrained, and very emotionally accurate. It all comes together on the chorus, it's a cool part. And the solo is something I've always wanted to do - a slow bluesy one, where you can see the cigarette smoke in the air. I remember playing the song for the first time, and afterward we were all just looking at one another because we hadn't done a slow song before and it felt kind of... weird? It was a nice feeling, being able to do things other than power chord songs. It's musically influenced by some of the softer Fuel songs, otherwise I wouldn't have known the chords I use. Lyrically, it's the other side of the coin from 'Roses On the Floor'. It's knowing full well that this relationship is bad for you as an individual, but there's moments when you don't care. It's a bit more hopeful, and at the same time a bit more pathetic than the 'Roses' lyric. They're about the same girl, not-so-incidentally."
