Leave it to cult film specialists Mondo Macabro to unleash one of the most madcap Bruceploitation features of all-time. Packaged on a double feature DVD with the equally odd (and hilarious) FOR Y’UR HEIGHT ONLY, this release is not only a blessing for Bruceploitation fans but for fans of wacky film in general.

Picture quality

Bruce Le and Richard Harrison fans rejoice! Mondo Macbro has delivered a crystal clear anamorphic widescreen (2.35:1) transfer of this film. Seriously, this is one of the best looking DVD releases in the Bruceploitation genre. The slow motion topless tennis scene is a thing of beauty and, now seen in the proper aspect ratio, can now be accurately compared to the finest works from Orson Welles and Francis Ford Coppola.

Sound quality

The film features an English track only.

The Film

Okay, there are two things I love in the world – Bruceploitation and Richard Harrison. Put those two together and it creates a cinematic Molotov cocktail of epic proportions. So this may sound a bit biased but this is the greatest movie of all-time! CITIZEN KANE? THE GODFATHER? Phooey! This is the real deal. If you want to read a more detailed review, click here.

Menus & Extras

Sadly, there aren’t that many extras for CHALLENGE as per Mondo Macabro’s usual standard. I would have loved to have seen some Bruceploitation trailers, interviews with Harrison and Le or small documentary on the subgenre. As it stands, there are well done bios on both stars of the film and a nice little collection of pics.

Packaging

Here is where Mondo Macabro really came through! They decided to grace this DVD with a quote from the very site you are reading. Good taste if you ask me. The cover emphasizes the aforementioned Weng Weng vehicle FOR Y’UR HEIGHT ONLY over CHALLENGE OF THE TIGER (rightfully so as that oddity will probably move more discs) but Bruce Le does get the respect he deserves on the front.
